A Moment in the Spot Light

Remember that post about being interviewed? Well, it’s out! Jaime Lewis, a local writer, did a fantastic article on Hank’s Homemade in this quarter’s Edible SLO.(no longer alive) I encourage you to pick up a copy (you can’t anymore) and read all the great stuff going on in this county, as well as support the advertisers and the magazine in general. So as not to break copyright, just head on over to the website to read the article. I’ll see if I can get permission to re-print.
As the site isn’t available anymore, I’ve made a PDF of the page Hank’s Homemade was featured on.
SLO Solstice Mixer

Today we participated in a fantastic event at SAGE Eco Gardens and Nursery for the SLO Solstice Mixer. What an incredible time. It was Hank’s Homemade’s first time at a mixer/showcase and what a success. One of the things that we enjoy so much is hearing how much people enjoy our toffee, and never have we had so many people enjoying our toffee at one time! Hearing the “oohs” and “ahhhs,” the looks of bliss on so many faces make all the work worth it.
As this was our first “outing” there were a few learning experiences.
- Have shade for the toffee. While it was cool outside, the sun quickly melted our display toffee.
- Have a second person. It would have been easier to work the booth and meet other vendors had there been more than 1 of us.
- Bring more marketing materials. I made a quick one sheet, but people wanted more info. Not sure how to fix that.
I’m already looking to the next opportunity and hope you can join us! Huge thank you to Eddie, Stacy and Margaret for inviting us.
Upcoming Interview

I just finished doing an interview conducted over email for a local magazine (as soon as it’s out I’ll give more info). I much prefer interviews in person, but for a written one, it was a lot of fun. The written word always make it difficult to convey emotion, especially playful ones. While I take what I do seriously, let’s face it, making toffee isn’t going to change the world, solve the mid-east crisis or fix the US budget issues, so it’s important to me to convey the fun I have when I make toffee. I’m very excited about this interview and can’t wait to share more with you!

2009 is in the bag! After 1 month of really hard running, we made it to the end of 2009 and finished with a record Holiday season. Thank you to everyone who made this a great year.
